Morph Mastery Information Workshop for Parents - How to Use Morphology at Home to Aid your Child’s Learning

Morph Mastery is a morphological intervention to support spelling, reading and vocabulary for learners aged 9 - 13. In this practical workshop, presented by Louise Selby, the non-specialist parent can find out more. Morph Mastery is a multi-sensory and engaging way of teaching children aged 9 - 13 to improve their reading, vocabulary and spelling skills. Through morphology, they understand how words are made up into prefixes, roots and suffixes. This intervention follows the English National Curriculum and is being used in schools.

Preparing for Study: Strategies for the Year Ahead

Study skills strategies are key to academic success. Alison Patrick presents a webinar focused on study skills strategies, at the beginning of the new academic year

Study skills strategies can be of huge benefit when planning for a new academic year. This course offers a variety of strategies for different aspects of study, both in the classroom and when studying independently.

The course offers strategies to maximise classroom learning and coursework performance. Strategies target study skills for learners with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Autism, focusing on strategies for literacy, memory, organisation and concentration. Tactics are taken from The Memory and Processing Guide for Neurodiverse Learners – strategies for success

Using form 8 to Conform to Current JCQ Guidelines 2022-23

The live online session will give an overview of the new Form 8 which has been redesigned for the academic year 2022 – 23. It will explain the rationale behind the changes before covering the evidence needed to complete Part 1 and how to complete Part 2. There will be an opportunity for a live question and answer session.

The online session is designed for any assessors or SENCos and/or FE equivalent using Form 8 to apply for access arrangements online.

Morph Mastery in the Classroom

Morphology (prefixes, suffixes and roots) is embedded in the English spelling curriculum alongside and beyond phonics from Year 1. This practical workshop, presented by Louise Selby, will enable teachers to explore how the Morph Mastery materials can be used to support spelling in an engaging, multi-sensory and metacognitive way.
Morph Mastery is a book of curriculum-linked intervention, assessment, games and strategies designed for learners with literacy difficulties, but the resources can be used effectively for all learners in class and groups to support spelling and vocabulary. This is a chance for class and group teachers to find out more.

The Use and Interpretation of the TOMAL-2 in Diagnostic Assessments and Assessing for Exam Access Arrangements: SASC Authorised

The TOMAL-2 is designed to test working memory and is used extensively for both diagnostic purposes and to assess for access arrangements for public exams. This session will provide a unique opportunity to hear Dr Cecil Reynolds, one of the authors of the TOMAL-2, outlining the uses and interpretation of the test composites and subtests. Dr Reynolds will be available to answer your live questions following the webinar

Literacy Interventions: What's Proven and What's Not

Teaching intervention approaches which are typically methods that aim to remediate children’s underlying phonological and language deficits - with resultant improvements in their literacy achievements. Approaches such as these contrast sharply with so-called ‘miracle cures’ that abound in the field of dyslexia (and other developmental disorders) for which only limited validating evidence is available. Examples of good versus inadequate RCTs will be presented. The aim of this webinar is to encourage teachers to look at the available teaching methods and programmes with a critical eye, to judge them according to whether they have been scientifically proven or not and to feel confident that the ones that they choose will really help.

Dyslexia: The Phonology-Reading Disconnection Hypothesis: Why It Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story!

research from neuroscience and cognitive psychology over the last 10-15 years has shown us that dyslexic difficulties vary in degree and expression, and they commonly co-occur with other learning disorders; these findings do not fit comfortably with the phonology-reading disconnection hypothesis which assumes that brain regions and cognitive functions are separate and independent of each other. This webinar will explore how we have been forced to rethink our causal hypotheses of dyslexia to take account of moderator and co-occurring variables that create individual differences, and which do therefore impact the expression and outcome of the disorder.

OnDemand: Workshop with Professor Richard Wagner: using the CTOPP-2 and TOWRE-2: SASC Authorised

This Zoom workshop is available to delegates who have previously attended one or both of Professor Richard Wagner’s ondemand webinars on the use of the CTOPP-2 and/or TOWRE-2. It provides a unique opportunity to ask Professor Wagner questions about the use of these tests and aspects of his research that impact on assessment practice.
The workshop provides an opportunity for practitioners to ask questions of relating specifically to the use of these tests and related aspects of Professor Wagner’s research. Delegates are requested to submit questions or a short, anonymised case study in writing before the workshop (deadline for submission - 19th October 2022)
