The purpose of this session is to explain how difficulties mastering English orthography impact both reading and spelling development. In the broadest sense, orthography refers to the components of the writing system of a language, including letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and spelling patterns and rules. Orthographic processing is how the brain acquires orthographic knowledge including forming, storing, and accurately and rapidly retrieving individual letters and spelling patterns.
