Diagnostic Assessments for the Workplace

The vast majority of people with dyslexia will be in the workplace. This course enables diagnostic assessors to extend their practice into the workplace. On the course examine how to make recommendation to reports written for University students to transfer to the workplace. Learn how to advise employers on making reasonable adjustment to comply with good practice, which makes their companies more successful commercially. Understand both the legal requirements with regards to the Equality Act, and the way Access to Work functions.

Developing Writing Skills in Adults with Dyslexia (DACPD93)

This unit is designed to increase understanding of the processes involved in developing adults’ writing skills and to provide strategies for use in the classroom. Level 5 Diploma in Strategic Teaching Support for Dyslexia and Literacy(DADIP61)

The Strategic Teaching Diploma is a specialist teacher training course that provides an introduction to a structured specialist teaching programme that can be used in school or college settings or with individuals of any reading age in private practice. There are two routes to gaining the Level 5 Diploma:

Graduate Route (for those holding a degree)
Must be currently employed (or very recently) in a school or college setting to work with learners with literacy difficulties/dyslexia/SpLD

Assessing Learners (Secondary & Post-16) with EAL and/or Complex Linguistic Backgrounds Webinar: SASC Authorised

1.5 Million students in maintained schools speak English as an additional language. Over 500,000 international students attend UK schools, 20% of students attending UK universities are from abroad. This workshop will enhance understanding of the issues involved in assessing students with English as an additional language or with complex liniguistic histories for SpLDs.
There will be a focus on distinguishing between literacy difficulties arising from the learner’s language history and risk factors more likely to be linked to a dyslexic / dyspraxic profile. The use of standardised assessment tools will be analysed using case studies, exploring how best to report findings of qualitative and quantitative data.

Developing Reading Skills in Learners with Dyslexia (DACPD84)

This unit gives practitioners the knowledge to compare recent models of reading skills and to understand their relevance to readers with dyslexia who are learning English or other alphabetic languages.  It examines the phonological, morphological and orthographic processes that underlie reading competence and explains why explicit, structured tuition can help build language awareness in learners with dyslexia.  It also considers the difficulties that readers with dyslexia can face when accessing print.

AAA - Assessing for Access Arrangements

Meets the JCQ requirements for access arrangements assessor training and is equivalent to Level 7. Successful completion of the course will enable participants to carry out assessments for access arrangements in GCSE and GCE qualifications.

Teaching and Learning Methods
The course aims to develop the theoretical and practical knowledge underpinning the assessment of learners for examination access arrangements, in line with the JCQ and Awarding Body regulations. Recognising ADHD in Adults and Adolescents, in line with the SASC Guidance Webinar: SASC Authorised

An opportunity for diagnostic and needs assessors, SENCOs, SpLD practitioners and H.E. disability advisers to familiarise themselves with and explore the implications for guidance on ADHD which covers both Adults and Adolescence

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterised by features of both a mental health condition and a specific learning difficulty. As noted in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), ADHD is characterised by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with normal functioning or development.

Applied Speech and Language Strategies to Support Learners with Dyslexia/DLD

Applied Speech and Language Strategies for learners with a Learning Difference have been demonstrated to be effective in developing language and literacy skills for such students.

This webinar aims to provide a range of inclusive support strategies and promotes a multi-faceted approach to teaching primary and secondary age students with language, literacy and learning challenges.

The webinar will review the overlapping diagnoses of learning needs associated with language and literacy difficulties. There will be an emphasis on Developmental Language Disorder. Using a psycholinguistic model, we will revise the theoretical background to support practice.

This short course supports assessors who wish to understand the statistics used in psychometric testing better or want to revise their knowledge.

Understanding statistics is fundamental to understanding what a diagnostic test result means and to be able to explain it clearly to the person being assessed. Quantitative data is a fundamental component of all full diagnostic reports and if a diagnosis is to be fully supported then it is essential that all data is calculated and reported with utmost accuracy.
