Should (and Could) the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check be Extended to Include Reading Comprehension?
Should a combined approach to comprehension and the goal of reading be applied to beginner readers? This is the question that this webinar will discuss. This webinar is presented by Emma Hartnell-Baker and Grace Elliott
Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it and understand its meaning. It relies on two, interconnected abilities: word reading (being able to decode the symbols on the page) and language comprehension (being able to understand the meaning of the words and sentences). In this interactive webinar the trainers will address whether even for beginner readers we can combine reading with understanding.
