Where we are Now with Maths Education

This is one of series of lectures by the international expert on Dyscalculia and Maths Disorder - Steve Chinn, which will enable both teachers and assessors to improve their knowledge of teaching maths. Themes running through the course will be ‘effective communication’ and the use of visual images to enhance understanding.

In this session, Professor Chinn will look at the current state of maths education, its cultures and beliefs. The session will also examine the core curriculum for basic maths and discuss which topics are critical, which are interlinked and which are essential for maths learning to develop. The developmental nature of maths will be illustrated with area, that is y =ab.
