Developing Reading Skills Through: My Special Alphabet Book - Developing a Workbook for Parents and Teachers to Support ‘at-risk’ Early Learners

The Alphabetic Principle, that letters represent the sounds of spoken English, is essential for learning to read. My Special Alphabet Book is designed to teach the Alphabetic principle to 4 -7 years old, in a fun and friendly way. The book is designed in such a way that it can be used by parents, teaching assistants and teachers – so reaching greater numbers of at-risk children.
The illustrated Alphabet Recycle Story aims to teach children the three early foundation skills for reading, specifically letter knowledge, phonological awareness and oral language (in particular, vocabulary and oral narrative). These skills are an essential component to effectively teaching phonics.
